Pick a target

  • Handheld (Steam Deck): 40–60 FPS, balance for battery.
  • Laptop: 60 FPS, plug in for sessions > 30 min.
  • Desktop: 120 FPS where supported; Vsync to your refresh rate.

Graphics preset baseline

  • Resolution: native display resolution.
  • Render scale: 100% (drop to 80% on weaker GPUs).
  • Anisotropic filtering: 8×.
  • Anti-aliasing: TAA or FXAA depending on your eye.
  • Shadow quality: medium → high based on GPU class.
  • Vsync: on, with a frame cap one below refresh rate.

Frame pacing

A consistent 60 FPS feels better than a fluctuating 90 FPS. If your hardware can’t hold a target steady, drop the cap one tier rather than letting it swing.

Per-platform notes

  • Steam Deck: cap refresh rate at 40 Hz for smooth handheld; cap GPU TDP via the overlay.
  • Windows: Power Plan → 'Best performance' for laptops; ensure GPU is the discrete one.
  • Linux: prefer a Vulkan-friendly compositor; verify Mesa is current on AMD / Intel.
  • macOS: keep Activity Monitor open during tuning to spot thermal throttling.

Troubleshooting

If you can’t hit your target, see low FPS fixes.
